ATLANTA, GA – On June 1, 2003 – PointClear Associate Lisa Layman will achieve a goal that less than 2% of all Americans ever even attempt. She’ll be running the San Diego Rock-N-Roll Marathon with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America’s Team in Training.

Lisa had often thought about running a marathon when a friend mentioned the opportunity to run and raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America. Lisa’s grandmother who was also her best friend and mentor lost her battle with cancer a few years ago. Then Lisa found out that a dear friend’s 11 year old cousin was battling leukemia. “Laura is one of the bravest people I ever met. Her strength, positive attitude and cheerful smile are an inspiration,” according to Lisa. “What could be better than to fulfill a personal dream while working for a great cause?”

In addition to the grueling training schedule, participants must raise $3,760. Dan McDade, president of PointClear was so impressed with Lisa’s commitment that he agreed to a company matching program. Every dollar contributed from one of Lisa’s co-workers is matched by the company dollar-for- dollar. To date PointClear and its employees have contributed over $2,106 to the program. Lisa is a few hundred dollars shy of her fundraising goal but is confident she will raise the rest of the money before the May 31st deadline.

The first thing Lisa plans on doing once she’s crossed the finish line is to run to the nearest Starbucks. She has had to give up coffee on training days. Then, Lisa wants to sleep until her body tells her that it is time to get up.

About Team in Training

Since Team in Training, began in 1988, more than 190,000 participants have raised over $430M to help the Leukemia & Lymphoma society advance its mission: to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
